This week I have been working with clergy and laity who are being introduced to coaching tools. I am at El Segundo United Methodist Church with the Bishop, several District Superintendents and the Director of Connectional Ministry who are leading this training for 35 students from around the Conference (Southern California and Hawaii).
I am part of the leadership for this training. As an ICF (International Coaching Federation) coach, I spend about 15 hours a month coaching clergy and laity who are outside our local church. Most of the coaching I do happens on my days off and many are young clergy or those starting a new faith community. Monthly, I also meet with my own coach who helps me look at how to move our congregation to the next step.
Coaching skills help people work together, listen to their own inner wisdom and take next steps. It is a good way to equip people to deal with challenges- both in work and at home. Coaching can help us address and move through our fears.
This week, Michelle shares with us on “Facing Your Fears.” Psalm 56:3 says – “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” How does God meet us in times of fear and help us grow our faith? I imagine many of you have a story of how God has done this in your own life. In my life having friends (and a coach) have helped me face forward and not (to quote Monty Python) run away… . See you Sunday –
