2018 Spring Pod

I am a materialist.  And by materialist, I mean I have tons of stuff.  I first became aware of how much I had when I moved twice in two years.  As I packed and unpacked I thought, how much is too much?

It took a while, but I started to downsize.  I started with mugs.  How many mugs does a family need?  A lot less than I had. Then, I worked on my clothing.   Five times I spent half a day going through my many shirts, skirts, coats and dresses.  This year, I have downsized my home office going from 4 book shelves to 2 shelves and cleaning out my craft closet,  getting rid of 75% of it.

Today on my day off, I am back up in the bedroom going through two decorative storage boxes that are filled with what I could only generously call “junk drawer level miscellaneous.” 75% of it was junk, mostly old electronics. It was huge fun to dispose of it.

Every week I work to get rid of something.  And I am surprised at how fun it is.  I am also surprised at the treasures I find that I forgot I had.  (Today I found the mini-ipod with which I used to swim). As I live into a more minimalist lifestyle I am feeling lighter, happier and more grateful for what I do have.

What do you need to go through and get rid of?
